If you’re a busy and seemingly always stressed out and tired woman, you can burn fat and shape and tone your body in less time. How? Make every workout effective and time efficient. This post is for any woman who “thinks” she is too busy to exercise.
Beat down the stress of daily living with regular exercise. A certain amount of stress and tension helps you take on challenges and perform better. Too much stress (left unchecked) over a prolonged period is not good for you and it causes health problems and affects your metabolism.
In a Mayo Clinic article, “Exercise and stress: Get moving to combat stress,” it talks about exercise and stress relief:
a) It pumps up your endorphins. Physical activity helps to bump up the production of your brain’s feel-good neurotransmitters, called endorphins.
b) It’s meditation in motion. After a fast-paced game of racquetball or several laps in the pool, you’ll often find that you’ve forgotten the day’s irritations and concentrated only on your body’s movements.
c) It improves your mood. Regular exercise can increase self-confidence and lower the symptoms associated with mild depression and anxiety. Exercise also can improve your sleep, which is often disrupted by stress, depression and anxiety. All this can ease your stress levels and give you a sense of command over your body and your life.
And as I always say, if you aren’t getting enough sleep your health will suffer and it will be hard to reach your fat loss and weight loss goals. Being “too busy” all the time is not good. Sometimes we use it as an excuse to not do the things we should—LIKE EXERCISE! Can you drop some less important things off your schedule to make sure you do the really important things?
Do you have ten minutes to workout? Sure you do! Burn more body fat by using more intense, effective workouts. Long, 2-hour workouts are not necessary to reach your goals. Shape your body better and faster in less time. You could even do two 10-minute workouts on any day and still have plenty of time left to get things done. So, “I don’t have enough time to workout” is never a valid reason for gaining weight.
Heather, a good friend of mine, is one of the busiest people I know. She has also made a commitment to fitness. She shared this personal story with me and here is an exerpt from it:
“Over the past three days or so, I’ve gained a better understanding of why women of my age (the specifics of which is an irrelevant detail) lose track of their gym passes and the will to fight the good fight on personal fitness.
I’m nowhere near quitting. I’ve done this for too long and believe that exercise tones a lot more than my body. It smooths out the rough spots in my emotions; it gives me spiritual muscle for Life’s considerable challenges. It gains me “thinking time,” enhancing my sense of perspective. It makes me smile more and wrinkle less.”

I know all about stress affecting metabolism and making you fat like I heard a couple of times. There was a time when I was so busy and stressed out and I gained weight because I was constantly snacking. I later found out I am what others call a “stress eater”. And during that time I wasn’t doing anything to combat stress. I’m slowly going back to exercising. This article is a welcome help. I like this one from Heather: “smooths out the rough spots in my emotions”. Honestly, I miss that “feel good” feeling after having a good sweat.
One day at a time Julia. One good day of exercise and healthy eating leads to days, weeks, months and years of a healthy lifestyle. I applaud your restart to exercising and eating better. Let me know how its going.
